Post-IWAC Excursions and More Attractions

Colorado State University and the city of Fort Collins offer a variety of outdoor and indoor attractions and activities. Additionally, the downtown Fort Collins district contains over twenty restored historical buildings that are part of both national and local-designated historic districts. In the Visit Fort Collins Guide, you can find more information on special events and things to do. 

Post-IWAC Excursions 

After the IWAC Conference, there are four opportunities for excursions that include: a trip to Rocky Mountain National Park, white water rafting, a Fort Collins brewery tour, and a Fort Collins tour of downtown. While activities are optional, you can take advantage of a post-IWAC excursion for an additional cost. Sign up during online registration. 

Campus Recreation

Colorado State University Recreation Center is located near the Lory Student Center. You must purchase a day pass at the Rec Center front desk for $5.00 per person, per visit. Users are asked to observe all posted signs and verbal directions provided by Rec Center staff. Participants must also wear appropriate clothing. Denim is not allowed in the Rec Center.

Horsetooth Reservoir

(Bureau of Reclamation CC License -- no changes made) 

Surrounded by 1,900 acres of public lands, Horsetooth Reservoir has it all: fishing, boating, camping, picnicking, swimming, scuba diving, rock climbing, and water skiing.

As part of the Colorado-Big Thompson Project to divert water from the west slope to the east slope for drinking water, irrigation, and hydropower generation, the reservoir is jointly operated by the Bureau of Reclamation and the Northern Colorado Water Conservancy District who manage water levels for irrigation, municipal, and industry use. Larimer County manages recreation (city of Fort Collins).

Horsetooth Reservoir requires entrance and camping permits, and is open year round. It's located west of Fort Collins, Colorado, at an elevation of 5,420 feet. Click here for more details on the reservoir, including directions and entrance information.

Directions: West on Prospect Rd. toward the mountains, south on Overland Trail, west on Dixon Canyon Rd., follow the road to Horsetooth Reservoir

Southridge Golf Course

Southridge Golf Course is an 18 hole golf course situated on 128 acres in southeast Fort Collins. It offers scenic views and challenging tee shots from multiple tee boxes. Southridge Golf Course is ideal for players of all levels and ages (city of Fort Collins).

5.2 miles south of campus

Directions: South on College Ave., east (make a left) on Harmony Rd. south (make a right) on S. Lemay Ave. golf course is on your left

City Park Tennis Courts 

City Park is a public tennis establishment located at 1497 W. Oak Street. There are three public tennis courts located within the greater area of City Park. 

1.5 miles north of campus

Directions: North on Shields Street & West (left) on West Oak Street to City Park

TRANSFORT Bus Directions: From the CSU Transit Center, take bus 6 or 33 toward the South Transit Center. Pull the cord to indicate a stop when you see <Mulberry & City Park> appear on the bus screen.

Adult Indoor Drop-In Soccer

The Edge Sports Center offers Adult Drop-in Soccer Sessions year-round. The 60 by 40-yard indoor field, the largest in Northern Colorado, is equipped with the latest generation of in-filled synthetic turf that looks, feels, and plays like real grass.

Old Town (Creative District) on the MAX Route-Stop: Mountain Station

The historic area of Fort Collins, Colorado -- Old Town (Creative District) -- offers an array of art and culture activities, including stage performances, bicycle design, painting murals, brewing award winning beer, and a nationally acclaimed music scene.

Fort Collins Museum of Discovery on the MAX Route-Stop: Downtown Transit Center/End of Route

The Fort Collins Museum of Discovery is one of the community's interactive and immersive museums, featuring hands-on and collections-based exhibits that tell the stories of Northern Colorado and beyond.

1.2 miles north of campus (within walking distance)

Directions: North on S. College Ave., left on Cherry St., right on Mason Ct. 

Bus Directions: From the nearest MAX Station, take the MAX bus north to the Downtown Transit Center. Walk 0.3 miles north on Mason St. to the museum
