Colorado State University is committed to sustainable and eco practices. While at IWAC, you can contribute to this commitment by:

Recycling

Metals and glass, cardboard and paper (no neon), plastic bottles, tubs, paper cartons, brown bags, books (remember that everything must be empty and dry)

Please note: Plastic bags do not go in the recycling bins

Electronic equipment including ink cartridges, CFL light bulbs, and batteries (to be placed in techno trash bins)

Composting

Containers, coffee cups (check your cup to see if it's compostable), and utensils labeled compostable (all CSU containers and utensils are labeled as such); food scraps including coffee grounds, egg shells, dairy, and meat (no bones); paper plates, napkins and cups (not wax-lined); tea bags (no staple) and brown paper bags (grease is okay)

NOTE: If you don't see a compost bin nearby, it goes in the landfill.

Landfill

Plastic bags, plastic wrap, styrofoam, individual coffee creamers, candy wrappers, wax-lined cups, cellophane, straws, most individually-wrapped food items such as individual coffee creamers and potato chip bags

Conserving Energy and Resources

Unplug laptop and cell phone charges from the wall when not in use to prevent phantom energy loads.

Use the hand dryers in the restrooms or take only one or two paper towels

Presenters, turn off lights and electronics when you leave the room

Water Refill Stations

Bringing your own water bottle means you can take advantage of the water refill stations around campus. You can stay hydrated while also contributing to CSU's commitment to sustainable and eco practices.

Using Alternative Transportation

  • Check out an eco-friendly bike at one of the stations on campus or around town. Fort Collins is an award-winning “Bicycle Friendly Town."
